Mosque Art Exhibition: Dec 22-Jan 23

Mosque Art Exhibition: Dec 22-Jan 23

To celebrate the end of a successful term at The Mosque, young people’s artwork from the Banbury Mosque Art Club Saturday and Thursday groups are being displayed in the new Bayt’al’Hikmah (House of Wisdom) library at the Banbury Mosque in Merton Street.

Cherwell Theatre Company and Banbury Madni Masjid (Banbury Mosque) have been running free creative art classes for children and young people aged 5-16 years as part of the larger community based arts programme ‘Amplify’.

The free exhibition features young people’s artwork exploring the Five Pillars of Islam using a combination of printmaking, drawing, collage and painting. It runs from 16th December 2022 to 15th January at The Mosque, Merton Street, Banbury and is open daily for public viewings. Donations welcome.

The Amplify programme was launched in September across Banbury this month with support from Cherwell District Council, The Ragdoll Foundation, Bouttell Bequest and Oxfordshire Community Foundation. The programme helps to raise the voices and aspirations of the young people of Banbury regardless of their backgrounds or differences through a weekly on-going participatory programme of creative workshops that seeks to overcome the barriers that groups of local young people face in accessing CTC projects.

Alongside regular drama sessions run by CTC at the Activate Learning Banbury Campus, free sessions have been running with community partners at the Banbury Mosque in Grimsbury, The Hill Community Centre in Bretch Hill and Let’s Play Project, a provider for young people with additional needs based in Twyford, Banbury.

Additional funding through Activate Learning’s Personal and Community Development Learning Scheme has allowed us to expand the Amplify offer to Early Years and under 5s at The Sunshine Centre, adults with learning disabilities and Autism at Style Acre, as well as bespoke workshops at EMBS college and BYHP.
